I was given this ARC last May at BEA. I totally forgot to review it here over the Summer. We also received squirrel ears which we loved and lost. So sad. Disney (Marvel?)- If you are reading this, we’d love a new set. This book is pure candy fiction. Just fun. It helps that we are fans of the entire Marvel universe- but you need no prior knowledge of the world to enjoy this book.
“All I’m saying,” said Doreen Green, “is this neighborhood better be chockfull-of-squirrels.”
Doreen is a fourteen-year-old squirrel girl who we meet just after she has moved with her entirely human parents from California to New Jersey. The story takes off from there at a non-stop squirrel like pace and races on letting us ride along on Doreen’s aka Squirrel Girl’s adventures. It’s not just her amazing squirrel tail, superhuman strength, and ability to speak squirrel that makes Doreen a hero –nothing can put a damper on Doreen’s cheerful nature or quash her willingness to help others.
The section with the squirrel from Brooklyn was hilarious and much easier to read aloud than the last squirrel book we read- Nuts To You by Lynne Rae Perkins which I recommend as long as you don’t try to read it aloud.
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World is available now!!
