I ended up purchasing this book to review it for the Cybils Awards. (the library hold list was long and I ran out of time)

Wow. If this were a movie, I would think that the survivors were exaggerating the danger and just how many things can go wrong even when you are well prepared. Overall though this is a story of luck and survival both for the man on the boat and the rescue team.

Literally, everything that could go wrong on this ocean voyage did, and only the crew keeping their wits about them saved them from a storm that killed the crew of a nearby boat.

This was a fast read, I sped through it in just under 2 hours- shushing everyone and carrying my Kindle around with me as I went about my day. This is the young reader’s edition of the story. Since this one had me on the edge of my seat, I can’t imagine how much more detail is in the adult version. This was enough for me. I have sensitive kids when it comes to real life danger and I’d pre-read this if you are going out in the ocean anytime soon. Kind of like not watching an airplane crash movie right before getting on a plane. Other than those concerns this was an excellent book for anyone who wants to read a story of true adventure.

I found a video of their actual rescue on Youtube.
