Irena’s Children: Young Readers Edition; A True Story of Courage

Written By: Tilar J. MazzeoMary Cronk Farrell

Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books; Young Readers ed. edition (September 27, 2016)

MG/YA Nonfiction

I received a copy of this book from the publisher so that I could review it as a Cybils nominee.

This book is labeled MG and I would move it to YA because of its length, subject matter, and that I didn’t find it an “easy read.”  It could have been shorter and simplified a bit for this age group. If you are unfamiliar with this book Irena is a female Oskar Schindler who manages to sneak Jewish children to safety during WW2. I would have no trouble handing this to an interested teen or adult.

What Irena and many people like her did during the war should be remembered and widely known.
