Puppies, dogs, hounds whatever you call them- they are adorable. Even the soldier type ones. We don’t currently own a dog but are thinking about it. (I’m not sure how our four cats will feel about that) Anyhow, you may have guessed that this book is about service dogs. Animals can be heroes and these dogs are trained from birth to be just that.

I chose to read this book after I had read one about a hero of World War 2. I thought it would be a palette cleanser. After all- puppies.

It turns out animals are also lost to war and save human lives almost daily. So, it was a happy/sad read for me. Kids who are interested in animals, the armed forces, and dog breeds will love all the color pictures and stories of each dog.

Bottom Line: Animal Lover? Get it from the library. Buy it if you have a kid that is obsessed with dogs.
